♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM is elected as the Chairman of the Asia Pacific Centre for Arbitration & Mediation (APCAM) and Ms. Iram Majid, Director of APCAM is nominated as the Executive Director of APCAM. IIAM will function as the Secretariat of APCAM for the period 2020-24.
♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM is elected as the Chairman of the Accreditation Integration Committee of the Asian Mediation Association at the AGM held at Jakarta on 23/10/2018. The other members of the Committee are Mr. Fahmi Shahab of PMN, Indonesia and Mr. Kuthubul Zaman of MMC, Malaysia. The Committee will recommend various options for accreditation of mediation training programs and mediators of all the AMA member countries, so that there could be integration of AMA mediators, who can be selected for cross-border mediations.
♦ When the State of Kerala in India was hit by a natural calamity of huge intensity during August 2018, the IIAM People’s Mediation Centres in the affected areas were converted as Relief Coordination Centres and the mediators and volunteers associated with the Centres helped and coordinated rehabilitating the affected people back to their homes. ♦ IIAM is the Global Partner for the Global Pound Conference Series 2016-16, which is conducted in over 26 countries. Mr. Anil Xavier, President of IIAM is the COG Coordinator for India.
♦ IIAM and Singapore International Mediation Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 10 September 2015 at Bangalore India, pledging to, among other things, continue in their cooperation to promote commercial mediation in India. ♦ IIAM and Afghanistan Centre for Dispute Resolution has signed a Twinning Agreement on 10 June 2015, agreeing to cooperate and coordinate with each other to provide their respective clients with the best services for dispute resolution when disputes may arise within their respective countries, including disputes between or among members residing or located in each of the Centers’ countries. ACDR is newly set up in at Kabul as a body within Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
♦ Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation has been approved by the International Mediation Institute (IMI) at The Hague, Netherlands, as a “Qualifying Assessment Programme” (QAP) for IMI Certification for international mediators. IIAM is the first institution in India to attain the above status. This is based on programs whose mediator training and assessment assertedly provides assurance of mediation experience and expertise worthy of IMI certification. Accredited Mediators of IIAM will be eligible for empanelment with IMI. IMI is formed for the purpose of certifying international standards for mediators and for implementing the Global Mediator Competency Certification. On 1 January 2009, the International Mediation Institute (IMI) has launched its global mediator competency certification scheme. This is an online scheme for enabling businesses and their advisers to find the world's most competent mediators (including IIAM Mediators) by using an advanced search engine on the IMI web portal. IMI has also endorsed the IIAM Community Mediation Service and the Chairman of the Advisory Board of IMI is deputed as Member of the DPM Advisory Board of IIAM.
♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM has been inducted in the Independent Standards Commission of the International Mediation Institute. IMI is a non-profit foundation established in The Hague, The Netherlands as a public benefit initiative to generate confidence in and much enhanced understanding and usage of the mediation process among businesses and other disputants by encouraging high standards of training, by certifying high competency standards of mediators throughout the world. The IMI Independent Standards Commission will determine the detailed standards, criteria and guidelines needed to establish high-levels of competency as a mediator. The Commission comprises almost 30 international thought leaders in the dispute resolution field drawn from users, mediators, mediation provider institutions, educationalists and adjudicators. ♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM has been inducted as a member of the IMI Ethics Committee. The IMI Ethics committee was convened in 2014 to review the existing IMI Code of Professional Conduct and create a new Code of Professional Conduct for Mediation Providers. For more details; Click here
♦ Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation was admitted as a Member of the Asian Mediation Association (AMA) in the AGM held on 23rd February 2011 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM takes over as Chairman of the AMA Accreditation Sub Committee from Winston Sui at the AGM of the Asian Mediation Association held on 15/12/2012 at Malaysia. The members of the Sub Committee are Sabiha Shiraz and Peter Ho.
♦ Anil Xavier, President of IIAM is designated as a Senior Fellow of the Dispute Resolution Institute of the Hamline University School of Law, USA in 2005. For details; Click here
♦ IIAM has become the first International Associate Member of the Civil Mediation Council of the United Kingdom, the accrediting body for Mediation Providers, and was recently welcomed to membership by Lord Justice Sir Brian Neil. The Civil Mediation Council recognized IIAM role and work in India and the importance of mutual cooperation in the development of international mediation links.
♦ Hon'ble Mr. Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah, Former Chief Justice of India and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indian Institute of Arbitration & Mediation has been awarded with the second highest civilian award of the country "PADMAVIBHUSHAN" by the President of India on the 26th of January 2004.
